Grinding and Grooving

Our grinding services are a mixture of bump and profiled grinding, high-speed profiling, and bridge deck grooving. By using statewide specifications, we use our machines to smooth out any bumps and irregularities in the road. We start by using our highspeed profiler to identify the areas, then go through those areas to grind out any problem spots using our grinder. For bridge decks we use a TBG to add grooves to bridge decks for water drainage and traction.

Bump and Profile Grinding

Bump grinding is done after the high-speed profiler has found the deviations and bumps in the road. The grinder comes in and grinds off the top of the bumps to make the road a smoother ride for vehicles. Grinding is done to meet state-wide specifications for all roads. It is a PC 1500 machine which is self-contained with a vacuum in the back of the grinder to make for a clean process. It is followed by a water tanker with a 60/40 split of fresh water and slurry control.

Bridge Deck Grooving

At the end of the job, when the deck is finalized, this is where the TBG comes in. The TBG, comes in to add the grooves to help water drain and add traction for the vehicles. These are ¾ to 1-inch grooves on the deck that can be transvers or longitudinal. It’s a self-contained system that has a vacuum on it to help with slurry control. It is accompanied by a water truck that has fresh water and slurry department.

High Speed Profiling

In old and new roads there are often deviations in forms of bumps and dips which need to be smoothed out. By using a truck with lasers attached, we drive down the area and map out where those deviations are. The machine uses two lasers on the front of the truck that scans and collects data to locate where the deviations are and what they need to be fixed.
