2010 was a great year filled with much growth both individually and as a company. Throughout the year employees are recognized for their growth and performance. At the end of each year in the Salt Lake City office an individual operator is selected who exemplifies leadership, maintains an exceptional safety record, and high level of performance to be awarded the A-Core Operator of the Year Award, named after the late Jesse Gainsforth (former A-Core employee). This year we congratulate Lawrence (Davey) Richards of the Highway Division as the recipient of this special award. Congratulations!!!

A quarter-mile downstream of the Hoover Dam, a 1060-foot bridge hovers 900 feet above the Colorado River. The seemingly weightless structure is North America's longest twin-rib concrete arch.It's also the centerpiece of a much larger project to connect Nevada and Arizona on U.S. 93, one of the Southwest's most congested stretches of highway. For nearly 100 years, Hebgen Dam has held back the water of Montana’s Madison River, forming Hebgen Lake, a 15-mile-long, 2.5-mile-wide popular vacation and fishing spot near Yellowstone National Park. But in the last couple of years, there have been some problems. David Hoffman, director of external affairs for Pennsylvania Power and Light Montana, says that something happened to intake bay No. 4 in 2008. The dam has four intake bays, and 17 stoplogs were lost at No. 4 in the middle of the bay...read more.

Today Bikes for Kids Utah hosted successful 5K, 50K and 100K fundraising bike rides for nearly 260 cyclists at the same time the students pre-selected to receive brand new bikes participated in the bike safety expo. The rides supported Bikes for Kids Utah's mission to annually provide 1,000 underprivileged Utah second graders with free, brand new bicycles....read more.

We apprecite your cooperation with other members of the AGC-Utah in contributing toward the construction of the AGC of Utah training and office facility. This new facility will greatly assist the AGC of Utah and its memebers in training and promoting the construction industry. A-Core recently wrapped up work on a high-profile project: the $260 million renovation and seismic retrofit of the 90-year-old Utah State Capitol in Salt Lake City. Seismic base isolators were placed under 290 supporting columns to absorb horizontal force from an earthquake and reduce stress on the structure. The loads were transferred to temporary columns while the main columns were cut and the isolators positioned....read more.

Box Elder County, located at the northwestern point in Utah, is home to 45,000 residents. The land is comprised of forested mountains and barren deserts and is 6,729 square miles. Totalling 19 miles, this Concrete Pavement Restoration (CPR) project took place on I-84 from SR-83 to SR-103 and involved four lanes and shoulders in each direction. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) carefully considered a variety of options to repair the 20-year-old concrete pavement, but selected CPR based on its proven longevity....read more.
